Kit planner

The instruments behind every method, with cost and data format

Every survey method on this site needs real hardware. This page lists what that hardware is, what it measures, roughly what it costs to buy or rent, and which export file loads straight into the records page. Prices are indicative planning figures from published lists and rental sheets — the final number always comes from a vendor quote, and UAE import duty, shipping, calibration and training are extra.

Recommended buying order for a one-person operation

First

IP / ERT system (MiniSting or SuperSting) + electrodes and cables

Sells groundwater, salinity and clay work immediately, runs single-handed, and is the cheapest kit that produces a paid report.

Second

Magnetometer + base station

Opens minerals reconnaissance at low cost and covers large ground per day alone.

Third

EM conductivity meter (EM31 class)

Speeds up siting the ERT lines and adds salinity mapping you can bill separately.

Fourth

TEM / TDEM system

Adds real depth for aquifers and cover-concealed mineralisation once you have cash flow.

Rent, do not buy

GPR, MT / AMT, borehole radar

High capital, narrower demand — rent per job or subcontract until a repeat client justifies ownership.

IP / ERT — resistivity and chargeability

The first system to buy. It earns money on groundwater, salinity, clay and sulphide work, and it is the cheapest route into paid fieldwork.

  • — Single channel
  • — Manual electrode moves
  • — Resistivity + time-domain IP
